Choosing the Right RV Refrigerator

While you might be familiar with the bog standard fridge found in your kitchen at home, some RV refrigerators operate a bit differently. As such, it’s worth it to spend a bit of time understanding how they work so you can choose the right one based on your needs. From chemical reactions, temperature controllers and propane hookups, we’ll cover everything you need to make an informed buying decision with no regrets.

Absorption Refrigerator vs. Compressor Refrigerator

First things first, lets go over what makes and RV refrigerator different than what you’d commonly find a home. At home, your Goliath of a fridge uses compression to keep things nice and frosty.

In an RV or home compressor refrigerator, gas is compressed to a high pressure and then allowed to uncompress which causes the temperature to drop. This cold gas then passes through your fridge condensing on the coils as it goes and chilling your fridge nicely. Once completed the now warm gas will again be re-compressed and the cycle will start over again. It’s a fairly simple process and is both reliable and able to reach very cold temperatures, much colder than an absorption refrigerator ever could.

An RV Refrigerator typically uses absorption cooling
An RV Refrigerator typically uses absorption cooling

Absorption fridges are commonly found on RV’s, travel trailers and boats. While they are not as efficient, nor can they get as cold as compressor refrigerators, they offer the advantage of flexible power options which is critical when you’re constantly switching from main power (120V), battery power (12V) and propane tanks. Plus, due to their lack of moving parts, they are generally much more robust and significantly less prone to failure on the bumpy open road.

Note: Even the best absorption RV refrigerators work much better when your RV is able to be parked between 0 and 6 degrees of incline. Anymore more and you’ll run into the units not cooling quite as much as they should.

Absorption or as they are commonly known as, RV refrigerators use a mixture of water, ammonia and hydrogen in conjunction with a propane flame to cool themselves. At their heart they boil the water and hydrogen to emit vapors, these then come into contact with ammonia which in turn, extracts heat from the interior of the fridge. While is sounds fairly complex, in reality it’s a very straightforward process.

What Size RV Refrigerator Should I Get?

This is a fairly common question and honestly a straightforward answer. Most RV’s come with a pre-determined space for a fridge as such measure the length, width and depth in order to choose a fridge that fit in the existing space. On the flip side, if you’ve got more versatility in the available space. A larger fridge will stay colder in the event of a power loss, while a smaller fridge will cool off faster when initially powered on. In general, a standard RV will fit between a 4 and 9 cubic foot refrigerator. If your fridge is smaller than the available space, side filler panels can be added to improve the overall aesthetic.

2-Way RV Refrigerator vs 3-Way RV Refrigerator vs Residential RV Refrigerator

When it comes to power sources, the more the better. 2-way refers to 12V power from your RV’s battery in additional to LPG (liquid propane gas) from your propane tank. 3-way RV refrigerators will also include the option to run off 120V (or 115V, 110V etc.) from land based power sources at a campground, or any developed RV parking location.

Tip: turn your RV refrigerator on the day BEFORE you need it to ensure the interior is nice and cold. Be sure to also not place any hot items in it as it will quickly heat up the space and your food might spoil.

You’ll find that most people on irv2 forums, including us, will always recommend 3-way power for the extra flexibility and the ability to run independently of propane and on-board power. This is especially true if you like to travel to backwater locations far away from squeaky clean power poles and parking pads.  Some folks do prefer a residential type RV fridge but in general they are the ones who stick to main roads and larger developed RV parks.

How Loud is an RV Refrigerator?

Assuming you’re going with the recommended absorption RV refrigerator, the answer is basically silent. Because there are no moving parts and everything is self contained, you’ll almost never hear the fridge unless there is a small LPG leak at the connection to the unit.

On the other hand, if you opt for a compressor type fridge, you’ll hear a faint to moderate buzzing similar to your fridge at home. While not terribly annoying, if your in a natural setting with limited external noise, an absorption refrigerator is the clear winner and quietest by a large margin.

Which way should the door swing?

The door swing of a typical small RV refrigerator is easily adjustable with either reversible doors, or external door kits. Most folks prefer right swing doors as we’re use to them from home. However in the small kitchen(etts) in an RV. You’ll want to ensure the door swing is 100% free of obstructions for maximum comfort and usability. As such sometimes a left hand swing is preferred.

Be sure to figure out which way you want your RV Refrigerator's door to swing ahead of time
Be sure to figure out which way you want your RV Refrigerator’s door to swing ahead of time

We’d recommend that you pretend you have a fridge installed and see which way would be the preferred door swing orientation prior to ordering any fridge.

How much does an RV Refrigerator cost?

Honestly our recommendations can vary from as low as $400 to as high as $1600. While there are lower (and higher) priced options on the market, you’ll find that the higher priced units are simply for HUGE RV’s and have much larger interiors more akin to your at home units, while the lower priced unites are a bit too prone to failure for or liking.

What features should I be on the lookout for?

Choosing the right features for your RV Refrigerator is half the fun!
Choosing the right features for your RV Refrigerator is half the fun!

While even the best RV refrigerator might work like a charm, there is always room for improvement. Some of the top features we like to see in modern RV and travel trailer fridges are auto defrost options, adjustable temperatures, dedicated freezer compartments and anti-freezing capabilities. While none of these are absolutely necessary, they do offer great quality of life improvements over a more basic model.

3-Way RV Refrigerator Reviews

As we’ve mentioned earlier, if you’re in the market for a new or updated RV refrigerator you’ll most likely be leaning towards a 3-Way unit due to their flexibility, durability and near silent operation. The below section covers the top 6 Best 3-Way RV Refrigerators. We’ve selected them based on quality components, adjustability, visual appeal and performance. No matter which of the below refrigerators you choose, you can be confident it’ll last a long time and provide cold beverages for years to come.

#1 SMETA Propane Refrigerator with Freezer

SMETA Propane Refrigerator with Freezer 12V/110V/Gas LPG, No Noise,...
  • Propane electric absorption refrigerator with freezer. Approximate gas consumption per day: 0.6 lb
  • 3-WAY Powered: Propane(LPG)/ AC110v/DC12v, ideal for dorms, campers, RVs, garages
View on Amazon

Available Size(s): 3.5, 6.1, 9.4 cu. ft.

Features: Electric/Gas Thermostat, Dedicated Freezer Compartment, Reversible hinges, LED lighting

As our #1 pick for the best RV refrigerator, the SMETA Propane Refrigerator with Freezer is the perfect blend of form and function. With an easy to install design and clean burning, ventless operation it is simply a workhorse of a fridge.

You’ll also find that the 3.5 cu. Ft. models and up have a dedicated freezer compartment. With the ability to cool down to -0.4 °F you’ll find it gets plenty cold for anything you’d want to freeze. In the fridge compartment, which is the entire unit on the smaller models. The SMETA Propane Refrigerator section is adjustable between 32 and 50℉. This is great for when you want to save some gas and just chill vegetables or wine instead of going full on Artic mode.

Don’t forget to grab the matching regulator and hose add-on as well

Speaking of saving LPG, the midsize units will run for 3 weeks on a 20lb tank. As such, the SMETA RV Refrigerators make for a great choice when you’re planning for a longer trip and won’t have access to a generator or land power for longer stretches of time. When first powering the unit on you’ll find it’ll take between 3-4 hours to cool down. As such, we’d recommend you start it up before you put food in it, to ensure everything stays nice and cool.

Another good thing to note is this fridge does not require a vent. The propane burner burns extremely clean with no smell and no extra gas floating around. I know with new units this can sometimes be a concern, but the SMETA option is good to go. Since it doesn’t require a vent it give you some great space for an RV TV mount as well. You’ll also find that since it doesn’t have a dedicated freezer compartment, there is limited to no ice buildup and overall less maintenance.

It’s also good to note that this 3-way Refrigerator can be run on Butane, assuming that is, you have the correct pressure relief valve installed. Overall, this is an excellent choice and easily make the #1 spot on our list. It’s availability in multiple sizes, outstanding features and incredible performance put it that much above the rest.

#2 SMETA Mini 12V/110V/Gas Refrigerator

SMETA 12V 110V Gas Propane Refrigerator RV Truck Portable fridge...
SMETA 12V 110V Gas Propane Refrigerator RV Truck Portable fridge...

Available Size(s): 1.4 & 2.1 cu. ft.

Features: Electric/Gas Thermostat, Reversible hinges, LED lighting

While our #1 pick was big, loud and proud, our #2 Best RV refrigerator comes in a bit smaller form factor. The SMETA Mini, is an excellent option if space is a bit limited but you still want big time performance and a unit that will last.

Similar to its larger cousin, the SMETA Propane Refrigerator with freezer, it is absolutely packed with features. These range from manual temperature adjustment, reversible door hinges and some wicked sick LED lighting so you can find you food and drink in the dark. Plus, it is of course a 3-way RV refrigerator meaning that it will work just as good on gas as it will on electricity. Assuming you keep in on semi-flat ground.

Due to its small form factor and the associated smaller cooling requirement, the SMETA Mini RV refrigerator is able to cool down quickly and use a very small amount of gas. Under normal operation, you can expect to get weeks of use out of a single propane bottle.

Installation wise, this unit it a breeze to get up and running. Because it is small and lightweight, you won’t have to worry about it fitting though the RV door or not fitting in an existing refrigerator space. Both of which really suck if you run into those issues. Plus, even if you’re not an olympic bodybuilder, you’ll be able to lift it into place without fracturing your back.

As with the other SMETA alternatives a vent is not needed. This lessent that installation time and cost as well as eliminates another moving part that can break. Speaking of moving parts, the SMETA Mini has none! That means a long life, extremely limited repairs and an overall more durable unit. If you’re looking for a smaller RV refrigerator that won’t break the bank and still offers a ton of features and excellent performance, the SMETA mini is the one to get.

  • Built-in Control Diagnostics provide valuable information to simplify servicing and speed up repairs
  • Auto Changeover Between Gas and Electric, automatic re-ignition of gas flame, and automatic cycle to limit frost buildup on refrigerator cooling fans
View on Amazon

Available Size(s): 4.5 cu. ft.

Features: Built-in Control Diagnostics, Auto Power Changeover, Manual Controls, Auto-reignition, Reversible door

When it comes to top of the line refrigerators the Norcold 4 RV Refrigerator is a solid contender for the top spot. Made by one of the most well known brands in American and built to last, you can’t go wrong picking up this incredible unit.

Before we go into what makes this unit great, I want to cover the two issues that makes it lose out on the top spot. The first is the beige coloring of the unit. Honestly it makes me think of fridges built in the 70’s and 80’s and is frankly not very modern and hardly fits with any up to date RV interiors.

The second issue is its available in only one size. With a fridge of this quality you’d think the manufacturer would offer a few different options, but alas this only comes in 4.5 cu. Ft. Norcold does make other models in different sizes but they stats, cooling ability and overall build quality don’t quite match up.

Now, onto the good stuff. The main features that placed the RV refrigerator on the list is the inclusion of Auto power changeover and built-in control diagnostics. Two features which can really save your bacon when your out on the open road. Anyone who’s ever owned an older or lower quality 3-way RV refrigerator has at some point unplugged the unit and forgot to switch mode, thus causing all your food to spoil and your drinks to heat up. The Norcold 4 will never have that issue as it can automatically change over to other power source when the current source is interrupted.

The second amazing feature is the built in control diagnostics. I can’t tell you how many time’s a fridge has just quit working, or something went wrong and I had no way to diagnose it. With the Norcold, you can just look at the diagnostic screen and both quickly and easily figure out what the issue is.

I also want to discuss the auto-reignition that comes standard on this unit. If for some reason your propane flame goes out, this Norcold RV refrigerator will automatically re-light it and eliminate the potential for spoiled food and unhappy RVer’s. Plus with a reversible door, you can easily fit this fridge into any existing location whether you want a left or right hand door swing.

Overall, this is an excellent top-of-the-line unit that come in a standard size which is perfect for most RV applications. It is loaded with great features, and as long as you can stand the beige coloring there is no reason to not get this incredible RV Refrigerator.

Available Size(s): 8 cu. ft.

Features: Built-in Control Diagnostics, Auto Power Changeover, Manual Controls, Auto-reignition, Reversible door, Automatic Frost Limiting

If you’ve got a bit of extra space, and cash to spare, the Norcold NA8LX 3-Way RV Refrigerator would make an excellent addition to any new or upgraded RV. With top of the line features and an intuitive control interface it is one of the best RV refrigerators on the market.

You’ll find that this incredible unit has got nearly all of the features you could ever want. From Auto Power changeover to manual temperature adjustment. This mean no more accidental fridge “incidents” when you forgot to swap over to battery power after pulling out of the campground. Plus, you can set the fridge at the exact temperature you like it so your wine is just perfect for that special evening.

As this is a bit larger fridge it comes standard with a freezer compartment. This will add extra versatility to an already great RV Refrigerator. However one drawback, or it could be a plus depending on which way you look at it, is the lack of door panels. From the factory you’ll just get the bare fridge, the door panels need to be purchased separately. However that means you can choose the color and size to match your existing RV interior.

The included four shelves in the refrigerator sections are ideal for keeping food and drink organized on the go an the door storage provided added convenience for cans and condiments to your heart’s content. Of all the options on or Best RV Refrigerator list, you’ll find that the Norcold NA8LX 3-Way RV Refrigerator is going to be most like a residential fridge when it comes to size and performance.

Overall, this giant fridge is a great option that will provide exceptional storage space and amazing features while still retaining the great build quality Norcold is known for. While it is a bit expensive (as all larger options are) you’ll find the money is well spent when you can enjoy a home-like refrigerator experience on the road.

#5 Smad XC60-5 3 Way Refrigerator

Smad 3 Way Refrigerator 12v Fridge for RV Trucks Peopane Refrigerator...
Smad 3 Way Refrigerator 12v Fridge for RV Trucks Peopane Refrigerator...
  • Easy-to-use mechanical control, equipped with GAS/Electric thermostat
  • LPG 110V and 12V 3 way working, no noise absorption cooling system
View on Amazon

Available Size(s): 1.8 cu. ft.

Features: Manual Temperature Controls, Piezo electric start, Reversible door

If you’re looking for a small form factor, low cost RV refrigerator, the Smad XC60-5 3 Way Refrigerator should be near the top of your list. Coming in at 1.8 cubic feet and 48.5 pounds this micro fridge is perfect for smaller campers or those of you who are just starting out.

Unlike it’s more expensive cousins, the Smad XC60-5 has a fairly minimalist design. You won’t find any fancy auto power switching options or built in freezers. However, you’ll get a straightforward unit which is very reliable and not prone to failure.

The Smad 3-way Refrigerator comes standard with a simple piezo electric starter. This makes powering on the unit a safe and quick process. Plus, with manual temperature controls, you can quickly and accurately adjust the fridge’s internal temperature to your desired range. The temperature can be changed anywhere between 32F and 50F meaning you’ll have a wide range of options.

As with many of our top picks, this RV refrigerator has reversible hinges. Whether you’re looking for a left or right hand swing, you can easily adjust it to your preference. Plus, with its small form factor you can easily fit and adapt it to any space.

Despite the fact that this is a 3-way power unit, the manufacturer still recommends you vent it if you plan to install it in an RV or boat. Typically these are very clean burning and pose little to no risk, but to be on the safe side, we’d suggest you install an aftermarket vent for added protection.

Another thing we really like with this RV Refrigerator is the modern matte black finish. This is great for preventing fingerprints and looks good in nearly any interior. While it’s not quite as refined as stainless steel, you’ll find it is more toned down and still add a bit of elegance to an otherwise cramped space.

In the end the Smad XC60-5 3 Way Refrigerator is a great little unit that will enable you to have ice cold drinks whenever you want. While it won’t have enough space for a Thanksgiving turkey, you also won’t have to shell out your retirement funds to get it. If you’re looking for something at a great price point that just works, this is the one for you.

#6 Smad XC-40-4 3 Way Refrigerator

SMAD AC/DC/LPG Compact Refrigerator Propane Gas RV Fridge,1.4 cu. ft,...
SMAD AC/DC/LPG Compact Refrigerator Propane Gas RV Fridge,1.4 cu. ft,...
  • Single Door Gas Refrigerator Truck Fridge
  • 3Way(110V,12V,Gas)
View on Amazon

Available Size(s): 1.24 cu. ft.

Features: Manual Temperature Controls, Piezo electric start, Reversible door, Automatic Defrost

When it comes to RV refrigerators, there are small 3-way Refrigerators and then there are really small 3-way refrigerators. This is the latter. He Smad XC-40-4 has just under 1.25 cu. Ft. of space putting it firmly in the micro fridge category. However, don’t let its small size deceive you. It’s packed full of features and can go toe to toe with the big dogs.

Starting off inside you’ll find it’s got multiple removable shelves for extra convenience and has a standard temperature range of 32 to 50F. While you won’t be freezing any ice cream of popsicles with this 3-way fridge, you’ll certainly be able to chill some wine and cold cuts for that sunset picnic.

You’ll also find that the Smad XC-40-4 RV refrigerator is extremely efficient when it comes to using LPG. You can expect it to use a little over 90g of LPG in 24 hours. In understandable terms that’ll be about one month of run time on a standard 20 lb. propane tank.

While it doesn’t come with a regulator or house (nearly none of these fridges do) You can pick up the matching Smad High Pressure Propane Regulator and Hose for the entire package. For reference, this unit comes with a ⅜” male flare LPG connection.

As with any 3-way refrigerator you can only use one energy source at a time. The unit will automatically switch from 12V to 120V but if you plan on using LPG  you’ll need to disconnect the power source, make sure it’s unplugged and then turn on the gas and light the unit. While not as easy as some of the more expensive RV refrigerators, it is none the less effective.

Plus, with the piezo electric start located on the front of the unit, you won’t need to pull the fridge out to start it. Another thing to note (as with all Smad fridges) you’ll want to grab the associated venting kit for safe operation. And don’t worry if your planning to use this on a propane splitter, it’ll work just fine so you can have your propane stove running and keep the beer cool.

2-Way RV Refrigerator Reviews

While 3-way camper refrigerators are typically a better choice, 2-way RV refrigerators are also available if you’re looking to replace an existing unit, or simply like a specific brand and mode of operation. We’ve chosen a selection of the best rv refrigerators that operation in 2-way power mode below. Whichever one you choose, you can rest assured it’ll be reliable, safe and perfect for the open road.

Be warned however, that many of these options require 12V power at all times, regardless of whether your hooked up to LPG or 110V ground power.

#1 Dometic DM2862RB Americana Plus RV Refrigerator-2-Way

Dometic DM2862RB 8.0 Cubic Feet 2-Way Refrigerator
Dometic DM2862RB 8.0 Cubic Feet 2-Way Refrigerator
  • Integrated design with optional door insert panels available, includes automatic LP ignition, available in black frame, standard and large double door
  • Automatic locking handles, adjustable temperature control and smart thermostat lets you choose from five operational modes with just the push of a button
View on Amazon

Available Size(s): 8 cu. ft.

Features: Manual Temperature Controls,Reversible door, Automatic Defrost, automatic ignition, locking handles

The Dometic DM2862RB Americana Plus RV Refrigerator-2-Way is a powerhouse when it comes to RV refrigerators. With a massive 8 cu. Ft. of storage space and a high quality steel frame, this unit is built to last. Not only that, but it comes with an ultra efficient LPG burner which is great for saving energy and lowering your fuel costs.

As with most of the Dometic brand camper refrigerators, the DM2862RB comes standard with an adjustable temperature controller and a smart thermostat with five distinct modes of operation. This is excellent for energy savings while still maintaining the perfect internal temperature.

One of the things we really like about this rv refrigerator is the eye level controls. Many lower cost units have the controls hidden under bezels or at the bottom of the unit. Because Dometic has been around the block a few times, their controls are easy to access and super convenient to use while on the road or in camp. Even more, the automatic LP ignition system will most certainly save you in case of accidental shut off.

We also like the fact that this unit is compatible with the Dometic brand optional door inserts. This allows you to customize the outside look of the fridge to match your RV interior. While not exactly necessary for operation it is a great selling point none-the-less.

You’ll find that the automatic locking handles are great for preventing any accidental spillage while you’re bumping up and down on uneven roads. Plus the “magic fingers” bottle and container security features keep everything nice and snug in the fridge.

As this is a larger rv refrigerator, you’ll also find a dedicated freezer compartment for those treats that need to stay ultra cold. In addition, the unit is equipped with a defrost water drain system to prevent water build up during defrost cycles and prevent flooding out your RV.

However the one disadvantage to this camper refrigerator and nearly all of the more advanced 2-way fridges is the fact that it requires constant 12V power for the control board. Even if the cooling is provided by 110V or LPG, the main controls will always run on battery power. This reduced the flexibility of the unit, but assuming you’ve planed to get this and know it up front, it can easily be worked around.

Overall, the Dometic DM2862RB Americana Plus RV Refrigerator-2-Way is a high cost, high performance fridge that won’t let you down. With ample controls and a solid build, it’ll last for decades and make your RV the best on the road.

Features: Fast Freeze Mode, Includes AC & DC Power Cords, Compressor Cooling

Okay, so we have to admit that the Whynter FM-45G 45-Quart Portable Refrigerator/Freezer is not your typical RV refrigerator. In fact it’s much more akin to a portable chest freezer than anything. However, it works amazingly well, is very easy to move and perfect for campers who often switch from RVs to tents of boats depending on the season.

With the ability to cool from -6F to 50F and having enough storage space for 60 cans, the Whynter portable refrigerator will definitely be the perfect addition to any RV. Plus, it is built with a tough and solid outer casing that can take quite a beating. Don’t worry about roughing it up a bit or dragging it to the campground, it’ll be just fine.

Inside you’ll find it’s got two removable baskets for organization and is a super quite unit, especially for being compressor driven. During testing, users found that the compressor only went off 4 or 5 times during the entire day. In addition, because it uses a full power compressor, it’ll be able to get cold extremely fast.

One slight disadvantage to the Whynter RV freezer is that it cannot run on LPG. It needs either 12V DC or 110V power to function. It will however automatically switch over to your RV batter if it’s main power is disconnected. So no need to worry about that. If for some reason you lose both power sources, the units insulation will keep it nice and frosty for quite a few hours anyway.

During testing, users reported that the fridge will run for about 24 hours on a 100 amp deep cycle battery. Some have even paired it with a 150W solar panel kit for added versatility when out and about. Weighing in at only 48.5 pounds it can be pretty quickly moved about a campsite or dragged into a car if needed.

Overall this is a top notch chest freezer and refrigerator that would be great in any RV. With ultra quiet operation and super cold temperatures it’s a powerhouse that won’t disappoint. Plus with the high quality door latch, your food is safe from bear and other RV’ers alike.

Available Size(s): 6 cu. ft.

Features: Adjustable racks, removable door bins, crispers, door locks,

Slightly smaller than our #1 2-Way RV refrigerator choice, the Dometic DM2652RB Americana Double Door RV Refrigerator is a great compromise between price and size. Plus, being from a well known brand you know the warranty support will be on point and the features top notch.

You’ll find the doors can easily be swapped from the left or right side with the available conversion kit. Plus, the fridge is specifically designed for RV and comes standard with 4 mounting holes on the bottom supports, one at each corner.

Temperature wise the Dometic DM2652RB Americana Double Door RV Refrigerator has a more simplistic design and only includes a simple thermocouple. This means it is trying to regulate itself to a factory set temperature instead of having an adjustment like the more expensive Norcold models. However if your a bit DIY savvy you can move the thermocouple closer to or farther away from the cooling fins to increase or decrease the temperature in the unit.

As with most mid and high tier options, this  unit is able to automatically light when 110VAC power is lost for any reason. This is a great safety feature and has saved many RV’ers throughout history.

Similar to the other Dometic options through this list, this RV refrigerator ships with a simple black door panel. However it can be easily swapped out buy using existing door panels or buying an upgrade kit. This is great if you prefer a wood or stainless steel look to the standard black.

You’ll also find that the unit has a dedicated RV freezer compartment for added versatility. It includes a handy self defrosting features so you don’t have to worry about ice build up or water collection. On the back of the unit it’s got a drain line so water can be routed out of the fridge.

Now as with all 2-way RV refrigerators, this does required 12V at all times to power the control board and ensure the unit is working as expected. However, that is pretty much an easily available power source on any modern RV. Oh and did we mention the Dometic DM2652RB Americana Double Door RV Refrigerator has got actual click locks on it’s doors?! This is a super handy feature and gives us some peace of mind when were on bumpy terrain. After all, nothing is worse than losing your food and drink due to a nasty bump.

Overall, the Dometic DM2652RB Americana Double Door RV Refrigerator – 2-Way is a great option that won’t break the bank and still provides excellent performance with a sleek and modern look. We can easily recommend this to any RV’er new or old.

Available Size(s): 1.7 cu. ft.

Features: double doors, self venting, eye-level controls, LCD Panel, reversible doors

Last up on our list of the best RV refrigerators in the NORCOLD INC 2 Way Refrigerator Flush Mount Built-in SELF Venting. This unit is extremely high quality, but a bit on the small side for more condensed spaces. However, it is an excellent choice for an RV and fits many existing cutouts.

Features wise, you’ll find a ton of great ones are included. Starting from the top this Norcold RV refrigerator has dual Magnastrips (fancy word for magnets) which are able to attach to magnets to hold pictures, recipes and more.

You’ll also find that this unit has an improved hand and hinge design which is the perfect mix of form and function. The latches are solid and the handles are perfectly positioned for accessibility. However, be warned that the door panels are not included with this fridge and must be purchased separately.

Moving up the doors, you’ll notice an advanced LCD control panel with built in diagnostics and temperature controls. This will enable you to easily see what’s wrong with the fridge and to adjust the temperature on the fly. Unlike the above Dometic camper refrigerators, this is not a simple thermocouple and can actually adjust the temperature.

We were also very pleased to see that this unit has a door ajar alarm. This will limit your risk if you accidentally leave the door open as it will beep quite loudly until you close it. In addition, the NORCOLD INC 2 Way Refrigerator has got storage latches that keep the doors open during long term storage. This allows extra airflow and prevent mold and mildew from building up.

Finally, the interior is home to two distinct crisper drawers and multiple adjustable racks for convenience. It’s also go an interior light which will automatically go off after two minutes to conserve energy. Noise wise, this RV refrigerator is not much louder than a standard computer fan and should not be a concern.

In the end, even though this is last on our list of Best RV Refrigerators, it would make a great addition to any RV setup and will most certainly stand the test of time. Plus, being from a name brand with high quality features it’ll make your life more convenient and your keep your food nice and cool.

Conclusion

In general, an RV refrigerator is one of the best appliances you can add to any RV or camper kitchen. While you can opt for either a 2-way or 3-way RV refrigerator, we’d suggest you still opt to buy our top choice, the SMETA Propane Refrigerator with Freezer. It’s available in multiple sizes, is made from a brand we trust and will fit nearly any application. Plus, being so versatile will only make it more useful.

Now that you’ve got your RV refrigerator on lock down, you’ll probably want to do a bit of research into the best RV toilet. After all, once you’re finished with all that food and drink, nature’s call doesn’t wait long!
